Craft beer is gaining more market share over corporate beer companies with sales increasing by 5.7 percent in volume and 9.1 percent in dollars as reported by the Brewers Association. Along with this, women are now getting into micro-brewed hops from managing on-site fermentation and consumption to social media/blogging and tasting social clubs.
The Brewers Association also reports that mass-produced American beer sales fell by 1% in 2011

New business model for local agriculture and small-scale farms
Local is the way to go. Mass production farms are losing to the heightened stability and appeal of local farms. As the movement for local food increases, small-scale farms are introduced with new ways to fund and maintain daily farming activities. Things like the slow money movement which channels money into small-scale food operations, local restaurants ans stores buying local, and consumer awareness allows for the industry to be a bit more predictable and profitable.
Now, a new funding source emerges on the scene to help local farms. Community by Design, inspired by the slow money movement, started near Portland, CO by Narendra Varma who invest $2 million in a 56-acre project last year. Community by Design acts as a vehicle for financing local, organic food production through groups like Slow Money– which currently received $4 million out of the total $18 million raised by Slow Money in the past two years.

Sprinkles Cupcake ATM Machine comes to Washington D.C.
Starting next month, things will become a little sweeter in the D.C. area after hours with a cupcake ATM machine. The “ATM” will be able to hold up to 600 cupcakes for $4 each that would be restocked periodically by Sprinkles staff. We also reported a few months ago about this cupcake ATM coming to New York very soon– a great add to the city! The Sprinkles Cupcake ATM concept started in Beverly Hills and has become a staple feature on the West Coast.

Everyman Espresso opens second location in Soho
In hopes of expanding the Everyman current menu, owner, Sam Penix, recently opened a second location for the manly coffeehouse. This location offers to-go coffee cups alongside the traditional-brewed option and light pastries. Be on the look out for their updated menu.

A food truck with a rooftop garden
Lulu’s Local Eatery is not your typical food truck. The rooftop garden on a truck started out as an idea from a St. Louis couple who wanted to operate a truck that was more sustainable. Kickstarter helped to fund the project which now offers a seasonal menu of sweet potato fries, power berry smoothies and much more.

City Bakery adds more juice to their menu
The juicing industry is definitely expanding and City Bakery saw this as an opportunity to offer something a little different. The established bakery has recently added a juicing bar in the back of the shop with a not-so-traditional juicing menu. Think kirby cucumber, fennel, and sugarcane,
or banana and cold-brewed coffee with cocoa nibs and lastly, our personal favorite, sweet potato, orange, and cilantro.

New Yorkers for Beverage Choices PR Stunt opposes Bloomberg Soda Ban
The New Yorkers for Beverage Choices (NYBC) was started by the American soft-drink industry to raise awareness about the ban and get more public support. Pro-soda rights banners were flying low over New York City beaches in the Rockaways and Coney Island on 4th of July while moviegoers witnessed staff members wearing “I picked out my beverage all by myself” t-shirts.
NYBC also created a viral video called “Where Will It End”. What are your thoughts on this PR tactic?
