4/18: Submit Your Bids for a Mobile Food Stand in the Battery

The NYC Parks Department has put out a request for bids for the operation of six mobile food concessions in the Battery in Manhattan. Details are below!

In accordance with Section 1-12 of the Concession Rules of the City of New York, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation (“NYCDPR”) is issuing, as of the date of this notice, a Request for Bids (RFB) for the operation of six (6) mobile food concessions within the Battery, Manhattan.
Hard copies of the RFB can be obtained, at no cost, commencing Monday, March 28, 2016 through Monday, April 18, 2016 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., excluding weekends and Holidays, at the Revenue Division of NYCDPR, which is located at 830 Fifth Avenue, Room 407, New York, NY 10065.   All bids submitted in response to this RFB must be submitted by no later than Monday, April 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.

Feature Your Business at the Food + Enterprise Summit

We posted recently about the Food + Enterprise summit this April 8-9th in Brooklyn. Tickets are still available online at the early bird price of $250, so check them out before February 18th. For vendors, Food + Enterprise is also accepting applications to showcase your business with an exhibitor’s table at the Marketplace on Saturday April 9th. In 2015, the Marketplace featured businesses like Driftaway Coffee, Blue Marble Ice Cream, and Kelso beer, alongside catering companies, farms, and other vendors. Food exhibitors should provide 500 sample portions and a staff member to meet and greet with other attendees.

Women Chefs and Restaurateurs Conference in April

Registration is now open for the 2016 Women Chefs and Restaurateur (WCR) Conference in Los Angeles, taking place on April 17th and 18th of this year. The WCR is a national organization dedicated to advancing the careers of women across the culinary industry through education, promotion, connection and inspiration. Their annual conference will be an amazing networking opportunity, as well as a chance to learn from the knowledge and experience of renowned chefs, television personalities, authors, restaurateurs and culinary experts. Queens Night Market is Back, and Looking for Vendors

Last year, the  Queens International Night Market debuted in Flushing Meadows with 40 food vendors a night and an average of 6,000 guests each Saturday coming to celebrate the delicious diversity of the borough. This year they’ll return with even bigger plans, including 50 to 60 vendors a night according to organizer John Wang.

The market will be open on Saturdays from 6 to midnight, beginning April 23rd and running through August when the U.S. Open takes over the park. They are still accepting applications for vendors, and you can apply online here. The application stresses that while there are no restrictions on what can be sold, they “want you to share your cultural influences with our visitors and to be willing to share the story behind what you are offering or selling and why it is important to you and your heritage.”

Food Protection Course

The NYC Health Code requires supervisors to be certified in order to be onsite of food preparation and operations. The more the employees are certified, the fewer the fines paid and the easier it is to acquire a grade A. The New York City Hospitality Alliance is sponsoring a Food Protection Course that will earn the certification in only 2 1/2 days.

General Member rate is $145, and Non-member Rate is $170.

The courses will be broken down into 3 days. Day 1, Tuesday, November 17th, 2015 will be from 8 AM- 4 PM. Day 2, Wednesday, November 18th, 2015 will be from 8 AM-4 PM. Day 3, Thursday, November 19th will be the day of the exam at 1 PM. Day 1 and Day 2 will be at The Stumble Inn, 1454 2nd Ave, while Day 3, the testing center will be at Health Academy, 160 West 100th St, 3rd Fl.

The Alliance instructor is a highly qualified, respected and knowledgeable in food safety, the health code, the letter grade system and the operations of NYC food service establishments.

Request for Expressions of Interest for an Ice Skating Rink

The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation is issuing a request for expressions of interest (RFEI) for an ice skating rink and/or winter activities at McCarren Park Pool, Brooklyn.

All proposals submitted in response to the RFEI must be submitted no later than Friday, December 18 2015 at 3 PM. There will be a site visit and meeting on Monday, November 16 2015 at 11 AM. They will be meeting in front of the entrance to the pool on Lorimer Street between Driggs Avenue and Bayard Street in McCarren Park, Brooklyn.

Hard copies of the RFEI can be obtained from Friday October 30, 2015 to Friday, December 18, 2015 between 9 AM to 5 PM excluding weekends and holidays at the Revenue Division of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, located at 830 Fifth Avenue, Room 407, NY, NY, 10065.
