St. Louis spurs on the buy local movement with new program “The Farm to Family Naturally Mobile Market”

In a partnership between Metro and the Sappington Farmers Market, farmers markets have been set up at four Metro transit locations in St. Louis, Missouri for neighborhoods that don’t have easy access to fresh produce.
They farmers markets will accept, cash, debit/credit cards and EBT cards with competitive pricing

National Cupcake Expansion and Beyond

Despite the five year slow growth prediction of 3.7% reported by IBISWorld, a market research reporting firm, cupcake companies in the U.S. are planning a rapid expansion for national and internal growth. Magnolia Bakery is planning overseas expansion, Georgetown Cupcake recently opened a Soho location with eyes on Boston this year and Crumbs is planning for a 200 store expansion by 2014- up from their current 50.

Amendment to the Tavern on The Green RFP was released earlier this month on Tuesday, March 6th. Proposals are due Friday, March 30th

In efforts to find an operator for the old Tavern on The Green space, The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation updated the previously issued RFP with no change in the original due date. Tavern on The Green will be turned into a casual restaurant, outdoor cafe and bar.

By the scan of QR code or manually adding/deleting product items, mobile consumers can now place purchases on their phone. The app also bills consumers simultaneously with their saved credit card info.
PayDragon partnered with several food trucks to promote the app at a recent event. Patrons were encourage to sign up for the app and place orders for extra free goods

Tasting Table compares Petey’s Burger to West Coast’s In-N-Out Burger while keeping the menu simple with a choice of burgers, fries, sodas and shakes.

Ninth Street Espresso expands into old Life Cafe space

Life Cafe is closing up shop after a dispute about repairs with the landlord. Ninth Street Espresso’s small “annex” cafe is looking to move into half of space since patrons have been requesting the need for an expanded coffee bar. The 500 sq. ft. shop, located at 341 E. 10th Street, plans to
expand to 900 sq. ft.

Brooklyn Grange plans to open a rooftop farm at The Brooklyn Navy Yard

The 45,000 square foot rooftop farm at The Brooklyn Navy Yard aims to supply local restaurants and residents with fresh produce. The Brooklyn Navy Yard is located near Flushing Avenue and Cumberland Street.
The Brooklyn Grange is actually located in Long Island City, Queens. They plan to replant 10,000 seeds that were used at the Long Island City farm for the Navy Yard

Chocolate wine sparks a new craze in the U.S. and U.K.

The Chocolate Shop, which was launched last year by Precept Wine, has had amazing success with an expanding market. Originally, the idea was to the product towards females and young people but the company is finding out that the potential for this “wine” is much greater. The Chocolate Shop, known as the chocolate lover’s wine, is made with red wine, sugar, and natural
dark chocolate.
Last year, 1.2 million bottles were sold to a predominant U.S. market
