Honduras rises as Guatemala takes
a back seat

There’s a new coffee sheriff in Central America named– Honduras. After tallying up the coffee production for this season, Honduras beat out Guatemala by producing 3.8 million of 60-kg coffee bags versus 3.5 million. Much of the boost in production is speculated to be from the decline of coffee smuggling in Honduras to Guatemala which put a damper on the country’s lifeline. New tax laws and government assistance have helped to boost the economy which includes organizing 90 farmers under a cooperative with 80% of the coffee being sold with certification seals as one of the steps towards to addressing the situation.

The Overlooked Ice Coffee Home Consumer Gets More Attention from Roasting Companies

According to the National Coffee Association, 73 percent of coffee that is consumed by Americans is prepared in the comfort of their home– so why didn’t roasting companies jump on this fact sooner. It’s probably because the popularity of ice coffee consumed at home was always questionable– until recently. 500 miliion ice coffee drinks were ordered at various eateries in 2010 compared to only 100 million in 2006. Now roasting companies like Green Mountain and Starbucks are finding ways to attract more consumers and gain revenue by embarking on a new "venture". A little more ice please.
