Brooklyn patisserie, Sweet Melissa, is closing in Cobble Hill but the Park Slope location will remain open

The Cobble Hill location is the original storefront for the French bakery which opened 1998. Owner Melissa Murphy claims that the shop is now closed due to rising rent.
The Park Slope location is still open at 175 Seventh Avenue at First Street

Manhattan Westside Flea Market to open every Saturday, this Spring (May 5th – Nov 17th), with a focus on antiques, food, live music and do-it-yourself classes from listed vendors

The idea behind the new market was formed by Kathleen McPherson who aims to create a happy medium between traditional markets that we know of today. The market will be located at P.S. 111 on 440 West 53rd Street between 9th/10th Avenue.
The new market will also plan to feature an annual student bake sale to raise money for the school

The Hummus & Pita Co. is now open in Chelsea

This new fast casual pita shop also offers hummus sandwiches to be paired with housemade luffa, a Lebanese/Iraqi flatbread that is soft, chewy and thick.
The Hummus & Pita Co. is located on 585 6th Ave between West 16th and 17th Street

Çiğköftem, a Turkish fast casual restaurant, is now open in the East Village with only one item on the menu- çiğköftem.

Çiğköftem is a mix of cracked bulgur wheat, red pepper paste, chili pepper, and 18 spices. The staple Turkish item could be served as a dish, in a wrap, pita or bun.

The Sensitivity Report: A new way to classify gluten-free products

A new classification system is being proposed by a group of experts that showcases gluten-free products and the need to identify the sensitivity level of diseases associated with products that contain it.
Alessio Fasano, Director of the University of Maryland’s Center for Celiac Research, conducted a study last year to compare blood samples of people who are gluten-sensitive to those with celiac disease and found differences which should be further investigated
