Haven’s Kitchen opens tomorrow, January 19th, in the Chelsea area offering recreational culinary classes, an event space and retail shop with coffee, pastries and kitchen supplies

Alison Schneider, owner of Haven’s Kitchen, saw the need for something more in the food industry surrounding sustainability, education and just plain fun– which is what Haven’s kitchen is all about. Culinary classes will be available next week, January 23rd, for registration.
Haven’s Kitchen is located on 109 West 17th Street between 7th and 8th Ave

After being in business for 14 years, Tillie’s of Brooklyn closed its doors on New Year’s Day. A planned bake sale is scheduled for this Friday, January 6th, 2012 at 8pm

A $2,000 rent increase is the reason behind the closing of the neighborhood coffee shop and most residents are not too happy about the closing.
Marc Eardley, a patron of the beloved coffee shop, is seeking to save it by preserving the current layout but will turn it into a café/comic book shop

The Big Gay Ice Cream Shop will be hosting a “Festivus Celebration” today and tomorrow with donations going to New York Cares

As the year winds down, Big Gay Ice Cream Shop will be celebrating with the introduction of the Festivus Miracle Cone made with vanilla ice cream dyed green and covered with red sprinkles. The shop will be closed after Friday until the New Year kicks off.
The shop will be open from 2pm – 11pm and is located on 125 East 7th Street

Farm-to-Table Organic Food and Wine Class on New Year’s Eve– Starts at 4pm

Wintermarket IV at New Amsterdam market this Sunday, December 18th with a dedication to fisheries called “A Gathering of Fisheries”

The inspiration for the dedication derived from the old Fulton Street Fish Market stalls. The event starts at 11am and ends at 4pm.

Leckerlee Pop-Up Shop

Bringing a little bit of Germany closer to home, Leckerlee introduced its holiday pop-up shop in the Lower East Side last week Saturday, December 10th. The shop will open this weekend and throughout holiday season until Christmas Eve.

Brooklyn Night Bazaar: Thursday, December 15th – Saturday, December 17th from 5pm to 1am

Dora is now “Pushcart Coffee” with a Grand Re-Opening Party this Friday, December 16th, from 6-8pm

The new owner, Jamie Rogers, purchased the coffee shop in September and has worked on rebranding the shop to tell the story of the Lower East Side– from past to present while sipping on a cup of joe.
Jamie, who also lives in the neighborhood, has partnered with The Lo-Down (an online news website for the Lower East Side) to produce a printed version of local news
