Founders Rob Spiro and Alon Salant launched a site called Good Eggs which connects people directly to local handcrafted food producers. Currently, the site features 40 food vendors from the Bay Area.
The company plans to expand to Portland, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Brooklyn

Urban Space opens another market in the Meatpacking District on September 1st

Starting on September 1st until the end of 2012, the Meatpacking District will host a food/fashion market with a “mixology bar” for juices and non-alcoholic drinks. The market will be open every day from 11am – 8 pm. Asia Dog, Steve’s Ice Cream, Red Hook Lobster Pound, Mayhem & Stour, and Mexicue are a part of the line-up so far.

Restaurants increase traffic with more units

The NPD Group, a NY-based market research firm, highlights that the total number of restaurant units increased by 2,872 in a 12-month period ending in March 31, 2012. The increased units has given the restaurant industry a 1% increase in traffic and a 2% increase in spending.

Pop Karma is now open in the Lower East Side

It seems like a popcorn trend is happening in New York City as another shop dedicated to popping kernels opened on Monday. Pop Karma, which started as a Kickstarter project, now has a retail location that offers unique flavors like Mediterranean, Zen Cheddar, Pure Caramel, Barbecue, White Truffle Cheddar and Margarita.

Chrysanthemum, Rare Teas & Flowers opens in Prospect Heights

A joint venture between a floral designer and tea master puts a unique spin on traditional tea flavors for an exotic taste. The space hosts a variety of rare tea collections, Yi Xing pots, cups,
tea ware and instruments with floral arrangements on display. They will also have classes for Chinese tea art, tea appreciation and painting.
