Honduras rises as Guatemala takes
a back seat

After tallying up the coffee production for this season, Honduras beat out Guatemala by producing 3.8 million of 60-kg coffee bags versus 3.5 million. Much of the boost in production is speculated to be from the decline of coffee smuggling in Honduras to Guatemala which put a damper on the country’s lifeline. New tax laws and government assistance have helped to boost the economy which includes organizing 90 farmers under a cooperative with 80% of the coffee being sold with certification seals as one of the steps towards to addressing the situation.
