The winter season will open arms to The Meatball Shop’s expected opening for early 2013. The owners (Daniel Holzman and Michael Chernow) just reported to Eater NY that they have signed a lease for a location on 2nd Avenue between 76th and 77th Street.
The space will host 70 seats with a private dining area

The Meatball Factory is now closed
Although it was short-lived, The Meatball Factory did strike up a lot of buzz for their grand opening in October 2011 for having Top Chef contestant Dave Martin on board and being a competitor to the well-known Meatball Shop empire.
The closing will open doors for a new seafood restaurant coming very soon

turkey meatballs.

Proceeds from tickets sold will go to funding projects for The Brooklyn Kitchen, The Meat Hook and The Brooklyn Grange Farm’s City Grower program
The Meatball Obsession adds to the meatball craze
The Meatball Shop and The Meatball Factory will see a little more competition this March. Daniel Mancini, owner of a packaged meatball company called MamaMancini, plans to open a walk-up window meatball shop on 510 6th Avenue towards the corner of 13th Street.
Mr. Mancini will use the recipes he learned from his grandmother and claims that his operation will be “old-fashioned, simple and real”
Meatballs: A comfort food with gourmet appeal
The two main reasons why this has become such a big hit is: 1) it is consumed globally across various cultures and 2) can be enjoyed at a low price point, both, on the consumer and operation end.

The Meatball Shop opens its third location tonight
Do we see a little competition on the rise? Just a few weeks after the opening of The Meatball Factory, The Meatball Shop is preparing to open its third location in the West Village tonight.
At 64 Greenwich Avenue, this location will feature a kid’s menu and serve beer and wine only. The lunch menu will be available next Monday

On 231 2nd Avenue (at E 14th St), another meatball-esque operation opens it doors in light of the meatball craze in New York City. The Meatball Factory serves up a little more with food offerings from black truffle mac ‘n’ cheese, crispy crackerbread pizza and cheese fries

Since the opening of The Meatball Shop in the Lower East Side and it’s second outpost that recently opened in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, people and chefs alike are engaging this childhood favorite rolled meat in full steam. You might also recall The Meatball Shop’s latest competitor, Meatball Factory which has declared that their meatballs will be better than what’s currently on the market. The Meatball Shop should be flattered by all of this fame around the infamous ball.
